Very nice food. Good service
Looking for a different food experience? Stop here! Delicious food, reasonable prices and friendly staff.
Wow, this is super good food. I recommend going during lunch time for the lunch special because it’s the difference between spending 9 dollars on a meal versus spending 15 dollars on it. That beef stew is like oh yeah just right to me. Delicious as hell.
A fantastic little hole in the wall restaurant, that is as authentic as you can probably find... plus it is family friendly. It’s very casual, and brings a unique dining experience to the Lansing food scene. For those who also want an adult beverage with dinner, they do have a small bar with a few beers on tap and ‘standard’ liquor.Excellent food!! Highly recommend!!!
Have never tried Ethiopian food, but there's a first for everything! Well worth it if you're an adventurous eater, and even if you aren't. I always love a restaurant with a bigger vegetarian menu than not, and this place didn't disappoint. I highly recommend doing half rice and half bread, because the rice is delicious and gives you a bit more variety. We will be back!
Honestly amazing food. Expect to use your hands to eat but it's pretty easy to manage and they will bring extra bread. Speaking of bread, it was the texture of a pancake with the flavor of a sour dough and it went perfectly with rest of the dish. We got the veggie feast for 3 and it was a little too much for all 3 of us.
Great meat dishes and great vegetarian dishes. Cant go wrong if you like Ethiopian food.
I am very excited to go back to this very amazing restaurant! I prefer their spicy dishes. I get half bread, half rice for the side. Combo plate is the way to go if you do not know what you want to get. Best homemade Lentil soup in town!
My first experience of Ethiopian cuisine was here, and it was a show-stopper! I shared the vegetarian feast for 3 with friends, and it was a universal hit! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, anticipated our needs, and brought us more bread when we needed it to finish our feast! The restaurant has a unique and casual feel and smells heavenly. If you don't want to eat traditionally with your hands, utensils can be requested easily and the staff is very accommodating. I will definitely be returning to try some more of the menu!
Stellar and authentic Ethiopian, with the sweetest owner/chef. Definitely worth a try, and much less "different" than many think, because the spices primarily used in Ethiopian aren't that different from our own, just in different proportions and ingredients. Any of the stews are a great choice, and you have to go with injera bread.Wish they offered hot towels before and after the meal, since it's all eaten by hand (not something I really expect from anywhere, but I've had it at Ethiopian places and it's just delightful)
Two words: absolutely delicious. We got the vegetarian feast for 3 and everything was amazingly flavorful and just plain fun to eat. The tea smells like it was made by the gods, and tastes almost as good as it smells. I would definitely take my friends here again.
Nice friendly Asian waiter working at a African Restaurant. The food wasn't like I had in other Ethiopian restaurants in the state. Very expensive.
been coming here for over 10 years. it's always been my family's favorite Ethiopian restaurant in Michigan.
Good taste... All items excellent taste. Good environment.. kid's are enjoying here.
I personally love Altu's. I used to get my lunch to go from here all the time when I worked on campus. I was in the area and some friends and I decided to come here for dinner. The food is flavorful. And I really appreciate the presentation they provide. It's a nice environment inside and the wait staff are always very polite. I ALWAYS get the spicy chicken breast stew, but this time I also got a half order of the spicy lentils, and they were great. I loved my whole meal!
The samusa is OK. The collard greens are standard. The vegetarian combo is pretty good. The clove tea is very good. This is the first Ethiopian restaurant that I've been to that offers rice instead of Injera, also the first that I've been to that offers silverware (neither of those are positives). Overall the food was good and the service was very fast.
Miss this place. Took a friend here earlier this year. She never tried Ethiopian cuisine before...she loved it!
first experience trying ethiopian food from this restaurant, and i was pleased! i got the spicy chicken stew and it was very good, but the injera was a bit too sour.
Great place to come if you're looking for something a little different. The food is delicious with unique textures and flavors. The smoothies are great too!
So I've been here for around 4-5 times and all of the times their service and quality has been consistent and awesome. If you like really spicy food, then this is the place for you. Their food is really delicious. I've tried almost all of their dishes and each one is full of flavours. One suggestion though : it'd be nice to have some kind of sauce/dressing with the sambusa..
Tried it for the first time. The food I had spicy stew beef with rice and the local bread (injira) was delicious. The hostess was very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere was nice and cozy (this was lunch time) with nice soft desert blues music in the background. Would go back there and try some other items on the menu. Service was timely I would say.
We loved the mixed Vegitarian and Meat Feast for Two. We choose to get the spicy options from that list and they were all terrific, just the right amount of heat, yet a flavorful Curry spiciness, not just for heat's sake. We will return!
Ethiopian food is so good and often hard to find so if you live in or near East Lansing try this out because it is a treat
Good food, nice settings and fat service!!!
Amazing food. It’s close to Indian food with Mild taste. Meat is well cooked and marinated with spices.
Some of the best food in the lansing area, hands down. Highly recommend!
Always my go to place in East Lansing. Love the cusine, ambience and staff. Usually order the lunch/dinner meat combo with injiras(bread). The taste is always great and satisfying.
Food was excellent, service was good. They offer individual dinners, or you can get a combo and try 2 different dishes or a family style platter and try several. The spicy lentils and beef were my favorite. If you have never had Ethiopian food, their website does a good explaining it, but I would say it is similar to an Indian curry in terms of spice and texture. If you aren't sure about the spice level, you should probably start with mild. I love spicy food, and thought the heat was just right (not toned down for an American palate like so many other restaurants).
